Code Red

Franklin County Inter-Agency Training Day

Date: May 12, 2012
Time: 08:00 – 16:30
Location: TBA

The American Red Cross, Arkansas State Police, FC OEM and the Watalula Fire Department are co-hosting this informative day of training and networking.  We think you will be pleased with the classes’ content, meeting fellow responders, FREE LUNCH, fun and DOORPRIZES.

Here’s the agenda:

Saturday 0800–American Red Cross INTRODUCTION TO RED CROSS SERVICES–answers the questions, ‘How do I request their assistance, what assistance do they provide,  information they need from us to be able to respond in a way that meets our citizens needs.’

Followed by the American Red Cross PRELIMINARY DAMAGE ASSESSMENT CLASS.  This important training will provide Responders with guidelines and techniques needed to assess the degree of damage to buildings due to severe weather events.  This is of great importance because it can help us to get an idea of the needs of our citizens during a catastrophic event.

LUNCH PROVIDED ON SITE BY  RED CROSS AND FC OEM (This lunch will also serve as a multi-agency exercise on Logistical Support for Responders in the field–if you have attendees from your agency it will be listed in the exercise report.  This is performance that might be useful to you on a grant application, etc.)

Saturday Afternoon–ARKANSAS STATE POLICE  will present a IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICE and ACCELERATE DETECTION CANINE CLASS.  This important training will provide Responder with information needed to provide scene size-up, scene safety, area evacuation, requesting and working with Technical Specialist, etc.  Included will be demonstrations with the Detection Dogs.

Agency Chiefs, Directors, etc,  please provide us with estimate of how many may attend from your agency so we can plan for lunch and refreshments.

The County of Franklin has contracted with Emergency Communications Network to license its CodeRED high-speed notification solution. The CodeRED system provides county officials the ability to quickly deliver messages to targeted areas or the entire county.

Fred Mullen, from the Office of Emergency Management cautioned that such systems are only as good as the telephone number database supporting them. “If your phone number is not in the database, you will not be called.” One of the reasons the CodeRED system was selected is it gives individuals and businesses the ability to add their own phone numbers directly into the system’s database, this is an extremely important feature.

Mullen explained, “CodeRED allows geographically based delivery, which means street addresses are required to ensure emergency notification calls are received by the proper individuals in a given situation. The system works for cell phones too, but we need to have an associated street address to provide relevant messages.”

Mullen stated, “CodeRED gives those who want to be included an easy and secure method for inputting information. The data collected will only be used for emergency notification purposes.” Questions should be directed to the Franklin County Emergency Management Office, 479-667-4909.
