Arkansas Winter Awareness Week Nov 17-21, 2015

It’s that time of year again–local temperatures dropped into the teens last night and we’ve already seen our first bit of snow. As we go further into this year’s season, there are some things that you can do to help yourself and family have a safer and more comfortable winter.

Winter Safety Tips from NOAA

Make sure cell phones are charged before setting out on trips

Be sure to check your basics—Check and re-supply your emergency kit—make sure you have blankets, medications, fresh water and batteries, etc.  See Winter Safety tips at http://www.ready.gov/winter-weather

Check vehicles to make sure they are winter ready—tires, and antifreeze levels especially, maybe throw a blanket or extra coat in your trunk in case of vehicle failure in extreme temperatures.

Hiking, hunting and other outdoor recreation—Be sure to check the local weather, dress properly and prepare for the conditions you might face. Here are a few websites that have some good information—use your preferred search engine to find more!
