Good news for residents in the flooded Arkansas River Basin, President Trump has signed a Federal Disaster Declaration  for 16 Arkansas Counties.  Included are Franklin, Johnson, Logan, Sebastian and Crawford. According to Franklin County Judge Rickey Bowmen, this declaration provides additional Federal resources when needed and includes a funding component to assist local government with expenses incurred while providing protective measures and emergency response to the flood event.

Damage assessments for private and public property will begin this weekend with with aerial surveys of the impacted areas.  County, State and Federal officials will soon be visiting sites of flooded homes, business, and public property.  At this time no Declaration of Assistance to individuals has been made, but local officials anticipate it later.

At 4 AM, the Head Water at the Ozark Lock and Dam was 375.98 and the Tail Water at 375.1.  Corps of Engineers and National Weather Service analyst believe there will be a slight rise in both of these levels around 1 PM today.  Road closures are seen for the near future as these officials think the water will stay near these levels for the next 3 to 4 days.  Citizens are reminded to allow extra time for travel.  The most comprehensive listing of local road and street closures is on the OEM website at www.fcoem.org.  If  you need to travel elsewhere in Arkansas, please check the I Drive Arkansas website.

It is estimated that 6,000 to 7,000 festivals attendees are attending the events at Mulberry Mountain Lodge and Byrd’s Adventure Center.  The Ozark Fairgrounds is hosting the Tractor Clubs antique farm implement show and Tractor Pull.  Please anticipate increased traffic in those areas.

According to OEM Senior Deputy Coordinator Melissa Francis, the cleanup after the water recedes will require many volunteers.  If you want to help out, you can call 479-213-6551 to be added to the list that will later be provided a work schedule.  For citizens having un-met daily needs such as food or shelter, please call 479-213-6015.  Also, use this last number to request cleanup help.
