A helicopter providing sightseeing flights crashed Sunday afternoon on the South side of Fly Gap Mountain East of Hwy 23 and North of Hwy 215. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time and will be inspected by the National Transportation and Safety Board.
According to OEM coordinator Fred Mullen over 60 emergency responders assisted with locating the site and providing assistance to the survivor. Help was provided by over 12 agencies as well as a medical service company who was working a music festival in the area of the crash. The survivor was hoisted to a National Guard helicopter and delivered to an awaiting medical evac helicopter. He was taken to a Level 1 trauma center.
