2021 Tulsa NWS Skywarn Storm Spotter Training

Given the current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, Tulsa NWS will most likely NOT be conducting any in-person training.

They are currently looking into conducting virtual spotter training, however there are a few obstacles to overcome, such as the tools that enable them to conduct the training limit the number of connections that can attend any one meeting. NWS can only host GoToMeetings or Google Meetings, as they are not allowed to host Zoom Meetings due to IT security.

It is being considered grouping several counties together and hosting training “meetings” exclusively for each group separately. One way to accomplish this would be to have local/county emergency managers advertise these sessions to their specific spotter/emergency responder groups within their jurisdictions, and not advertise to the public at all.

As soon as information is forwarded, it will be shared here, in email format, and during the monthly Franklin-Logan County ARES Net on the 145.350 repeater. (Check the Amateur Radio link at the top of the page for more information.)

For those that have attended NWS Skywarn Storm Spotter training over recent years, I would encourage you to do some self study on-line. The YouTube web site has numerous training segments published that focus on subjects that spotters need to keep in mind. The NWS Norman, Oklahoma office is one that has posted several excellent videos.
