The West Central Arkansas bi- monthly ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Services)  net takes place on the first and third Tuesday evenings of the month at 7:00 PM on the N5XMZ -145.350 (151.4) +443.250 (114.8), and on the W5ANR -146.640 (88.5) repeaters.  The N5XMZ repeaters are located on the western end of Mount Magazine in Logan County, Arkansas.  The W5ANR repeater is located on Cavanal Hill in LeFlore County near Poteau, Oklahoma. All licensed amateur radio operators regardless of ARES, state, or county affiliation are encouraged and invited to check in.

On Tuesday evenings at 8:00 PM, the N5XMZ -145.350 (PL 151.4) and its sister repeater the+443.250 (PL 114.8) will be linked to the Texas Freedom Net. The net controller will ask for check-ins from a specific area. When Mount Magazine is called for, that is when they are ready for operators in our area.

Tuesday evenings at 8:30 PM, the Mount Magazine Amateur Radio Club has a net on their club repeater, the W5MAG +147.090 (PL 151.4). This is an informal net where amateur radio news and events are shared, along with check-ins from all across the region.

Thursday evenings at 8:00 PM, the Fort Smith Area Amateur Radio Club has their long standing weekly check in net over on the W5ANR -146.640 (PL 88.5) repeater, which is located atop Cavanal Hill near Poteau, OK in LeFlore County. The check-in portion of the net is followed by a swap net, where if you have amateur radio related items for sale or trade, or even wish list items, then you can advertise those during this portion of the net.

On the second Thursday of the month, the Mount Magazine Amateur Radio Club hosts a simplex net on 146.520 from atop Mt. Magazine. The time for that net is 7:30 PM. Excellent training opportunity for ARES volunteers to learn how to relay information in a friendly environment.

Testing Sessions…

The Mount Magazine Amateur Radio Club offers testing at their club meetings, held on the second Monday of each month. They meet at Daddio’s Pinball & Arcade, 25 North Elms Street, on the east side of the square in downtown Paris, Ark. at 7:00 PM. If you can’t make it to the meeting but would like to talk someone about other arrangements for testing, your point of contact will be Jim Keifer, KD5NDJ,(479-963-1530), or if you are already licensed and looking to upgrade, then he can also be reached on the +147.090 (151.4) repeater.
