S-190: Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior

Other Info: This is a good class for any responder to attend—Dispatchers, LEOs, EMTs, Storm Spotters, Ham Radio Operators, FFs—anyone who wants to increase their knowledge of fire to respond more effectively to a wildland fire incident.

RESPONDER LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  (1) Using weather forecast to predict fire behavior. (2) Have greater understanding of observed fire behavior. (3) Use this knowledge to more effectively attack the fire.

TOPICS COVERED: (1) Wildland fuels. (2) Weather impact on fire behavior. (3) Accurate fire size-up (4) Reading the smoke. (5) Terrain features impact on fire behavior. (6) Pre-planning.

(1) AFA grants 8 hours Act 833 training credit.   (2) NWCG certificate.

Course Description: Responding to Incidents Involving Flammable Liquids Transported by Rail course. This 8-hour remote site training will be delivered to volunteer and rural area first responders who will be exposed to the potential harm caused by transportation of flammable liquid by rail incidents, so that they can plan to coordinate their responses in an effective and efficient manner. Participants will learn the importance of developing strategies while responding to these rail incidents, which allows them to remain flexible in adjusting their actions to any changing events that may occur during an incident. Key success factors presented in the course will be effective planning, communication, and coordination.

  2. This was in 2012 and I didn’t realize it was still up–at this time they don’t have one scheduled but I’m sure they’d be happy for your help when they do schedule one! 🙂

    The Arkansas Childrens burn class rescheduled for April 16th 2014 at City of Altus Training Center 125 W.Main St.Altus,Ar Time is 6pm until 8pm .No pregistered is required just how up.Great class to teach us more about how to treat burn victims.
